Robert J. Fauls, Jr. founded Southern Freight, Inc. (SFI) in 1980 as an LTL (Less Than Truckload) carrier serving Georgia and Florida. Few LTL carriers marketed their services or attempted to build business in the lanes to Florida. SFI offered an extraordinary service to a state that had little except sunshine as a back haul product. With his keen insight and leadership, Fauls turned SFI into a success story during the 1980's and 1990's as the SFI operation grew at a phenomenal rate and set standards for service to Florida. As the Florida market become saturated with other LTL carriers and prices began to erode, Fauls eventually sold the LTL division of SFI to Goggin Truck Line.
In 1990, SFI ventured into non-asset based truckload business by opening Southern Cargo Services and became a leader as a third party logistics provider, partnering with over 5,000 carriers all across the U.S. Custom Transport, Knowles Trucking and Mountain View Express were purchased to increase SFI's presence in the truckload carrier market. These truckload carriers provide service between the southeast and west and central states.
In 2000, these divisions were merged into one company: Southern Freight.
In 2001, Southern Freight, Inc. spun off its dedicated logistics and non-assessed based truckload business and created a separate corporation entitled SFI Logistics, Inc. SFI Logistics is comprised of two divisions: Southern Cargo Service and SFI Dedicated Logistics.
What began as a two-truck operation in 1980, is today a company with 200 power units and 400 trailers. RJF employs 250 people and has another 50 contractors. RJF has an extensive service network providing superior transportation services in local, regional and long haul markets.
Today, RJ Fauls Holdings, Inc. provides the management services for Southern Freight, Southern Cargo Services and SFI Dedicated Logistics. RJF recognizes the tremendous opportunity for quality, service-driven truckload and third party logistics services. The partners and employees of RJF operate on the premise that we must provide solutions to transportation challenges with better service at a fair price.
